Suga’ in My Bowl returns to the air this week to bring you an interview with Grammy Award-winning drummer Antonio Sanchez! You can hear him and the Migration band at a release party for their Meridian Suite CD at Subculture on June 19th, which also features vocalist Thana Alexa. As always, we have more music for you this week.
Saxophonist David Murray leads a trio at the Blue Note with pianist Geri Allen and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington on June 15-17 as part of the Blue Note Jazz Fest.
Bassist Mimi Jones is at the Blue Note on June 16 for the Jazz Journalists’ Association’s annual awards celebration, which honors pianist Randy Weston, trombonist Steve Turre, and bassist Christian McBride, among others. The event is open to the public.
Bassist Alex Blake is at Kitano with Lynette Washington and Dennis Ball’s Jazz New York on June 19.

Percussionist Adam Rudolph is at The Stone on June 24 with guitarist James Blood Ulmer.
Pianist/keyboardist Marc Cary is at Minton’s on June 26-27 and at the Harlem Arts Festival in Marcus Garvey Park on the 28.
Bassist Alex Blake, drummer/percussionist Bobby Sanabria, and vocalist Thana Alexa all are at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center (at the Borough of Manhattan Community College’s campus) for the Made in New York Jazz Gala on June 27th.
Poet Abiodun Oyewole is at The Stone with The Last Poets on June 27th.
Saxophonist Gary Bartz and bassist Christian McBride will be in Saratoga Springs NY on June 27th for the Freihofer’s Jazz Festival.
Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane is at Birdland from June 30-July 4.
