We’re pre-empted this week for WBAI’s Summer Fund Drive, but hop over to our archives for last week’s show with excerpts from a special remembering the late violinist Billy Bang.

Saxophonist T.K. Blue is at Grant’s Tomb for a free outdoor performance as part of the Jazzmobile series on July 31. he also leads the Multiverse Big Band at Taino Towers in Harlem for a Tato Laviera tribute on August 15.

Bassist Mimi Jones is at Smalls leading an after hours set on August 1.

Percussionist Steve Kroon leads a Latin Jazz Sextet at Smoke on August 1.

Pianist Marc Cary’s Harlem Sessions series continues with weekly late Saturday night sets at Smoke on August 3 and 10.

Drummer Bobby Sanabria and Ascension are at Worldwide Plaza at 50th St and 8th Ave for a free lunchtime set on August 6.

Vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater is at Birdland from August 6-10.

Guitarist Bill Frisell leads a trio at the Village Vanguard from August 6-11 and 13-18.

Trombonist Craig Harris is at Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park for a free outdoor performance as part of the Jazzmobile series on August 16.

Jake Maginsky’s documentary film Milford Graves: Full Mantis is at Maysles Cinema in Harlem on August 22. Both Meginsky and Graves will be there for a post-film discussion. See our review of the film and our show devoted to it for more details.

He’ll be performing a Mongo Santamaria tribute at the 47th annual International African Arts Festival in Brooklyn on Sunday July 1. It’s an outdoor concert and included in the festival’s $5 suggested daily admission. Also at the festival is saxophonist Rene McLean, who closes out the festival on the evening of July 4. The festival runs from June 30-July 4 with vendors, performances, a documentary film festival, and children’s programming. And we have more listings for you this week.

Pianist Harold Mabern is at Smoke in a continuing Monday night series on June 25 and July 2.

Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane is at Birdland from June 26-30.

Bassist William Parker has a residency at The Stone from June 26-30. Saxophonist James Brandon Lewis, Cooper-Moore, and drummer William Hooker join him on June 29 for a Sunny Murray tribute.

Vocalist Jazzmeia Horn is at Summerstage in Central Park on June 30.

Saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin will also be playing John Coltrane’s music at Dizzy’s Club on June 30.

Percussionist Steve Kroon leads a septet at the Jazz Standard on July 3.

Pianist Barry Harris leads a trio at the Village Vanguard from July 3-8.

Hammond B3 Organ master Dr. Lonnie Smith leads a trio at the Jazz Standard from July 11-15.

Finally, Drummer Terri Lyne Carrington is at the Metrotech Commons in downtown Brooklyn for a free lunchtime performance on July 12 as part of their R&B Festival series.

Welcome to Suga in My Bowl radio‘s weekly feature, On The Bandstand, where we collect upcoming NYC area shows from current and past Suga’ guests. We’re online weekly and on the air on NYC’s WBAI-FM radio alternate Sunday nights from 11 PM -1 AM. This week’s guest is guitarist John Scofield and you can catch him on February 6 for a Creative Music Studio benefit at Le Poisson Rouge. He’ll also be at Roulette in Brooklyn for a John Abercrombie tribute on February 26 and has a run at the Blue Note from April 3-8. As usual, we have other listings this week.

Pianist Harold Mabern is at St. Peter’s Church on February 7 for a free solo lunchtime concert and at Smoke for a JJ Johnson Tribute from February 16-17.

Saxophonist James Brandon Lewis is at the Zürcher Gallery with pianist DD Jackson on February 13. He also joins saxophonist Allen Lowe at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club on February 20 for A Dixieland Love Supreme.

Vocalist Catherine Russell is at Port Washington LI’s Landmark on Main St on February 9, New Jersey’s South Orange Performing Arts Center on February 10, and leads a sextet at Birdland from February 13-17.

Vocalist Dianne Reeves is at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater on February 9-10.

Percussionist Steve Kroon leads a sextet at Brooklyn’s Sista’s Place on February 10.

The Save WBAI Coalition is having a community meeting at Manhattan Neighborhood Network’s studio in East Harlem on February 10. Details are at their website.

Vocalist Thana Alexa is at Brooklyn’s Kingsborough Community College for the Jazz at the Lighthouse series on February 16.

Bassist Linda May Han Oh is at the Jazz Gallery with Fabian Almazan from February 16-17.

Vocalist Carmen Lundy is at the Jazz Standard from February 22-25.
