We’re off the WBAI airwaves for the last Sunday of the month, but next week’s live guest is drummer Bobby Sanabria. You can catch him at a benefit concert for Dave Valentin on July 1st at Hostos Community College in the South Bronx. Later this summer, he’ll be at a free performance with the Larry Harlow Latin Legends Orchestra at Lincoln Center Out of Doors on July 23rd. This week’s light, music-wise, but we still have a few listings for you.

In Saratoga Springs NY on July 1st, saxophonist Tia Fuller appears at Skidmore College’s jazz institute with Rufus Reed’s Quintet.

This week, pianist Geri Allen has a residency at The Stone on the Lower East Side from July 1st through the 5th. On July 1st, drummer Terri Lyne Carrington sits in and on the 5th, she’ll be joined by saxophonist Tia Fuller.

Blueswoman Alexis P. Suter will be at Roxy and Dukes in Dunellen NJ on June 27th.

Saturday, June 28th is shaping up to be a big day, music-wise.

Last week’s guest, drummer J.T. Lewis, will be appearing with Sandra St. Victor at Prospect Park’s Celebrate Brooklyn! series on June 28th.

Several guests will be at NYU’s Skirball Center for a Jazz Forum for the Arts benefit performance. Drummers Bobby Sanabria and Michael Carvin, trombonist Steve Turre, and many others will be there.

Bassist Reggie Workman will have a birthday celebration concert at Sista’s Place in Brooklyn.

Finally, if you’re up for a road trip, you can catch pianist Marc Cary‘s Focus Trio and Dr. Lonnie Smith’s In the Beginning Octet at the Saratoga Jazz Festival in Saratoga Springs NY on June 28th.

Pianist Harold Mabern returns to Small’s on the 18th.

Vocalist Dianne Reeves has a free outdoor concert with the New Haven Symphony at New Haven Green in Connecticut on June 21st.

Many of these events are part of the monthlong Blue Note Jazz Festival, which continues this week with events in several venues.

With the end of WBAI’s spring fund drive, we’re back to regular programming! This week’s guest is Charles Gayle, who you can catch at Arts for Art’s Vision Fest. Gayle is featured on June 11th and the fest runs until the 15th at Brooklyn’s Roulette. And we’ve got plenty of other listings for you this week as well.

Vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater headlines a fundraiser for the National Jazz Museum in Harlem at Hunter College’s Kaye Playhouse on June 9th.

Pianist and vocalist Diane Schuur appears at BB Kings on June 10th.

Saxophonist Lou Donaldson leads a quartet featuring Hammond Organ master Dr. Lonnie Smith at the Blue Note on June 10th and 11th.

Bassist and vocalist Mimi Jones leads a band at Smoke on June 11th.

Pianist Harold Mabern will also be at Smoke with Saxophonist Eric Alexander’s Quartet on June 13th and 14th.

On the 14th, saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin appears at the Blue Note in a late night set.

On the 16th, vocalist and pianist Andy Bey does a solo performance at the Blue Note.

Looking ahead, drummer Teri Lyne Carrington and pianist Geri Allen will be at the Village Vanguard from June 17-22.

Many of these events are part of the monthlong Blue Note Jazz Festival. Of course, the big news this week is the Vision Fest we mentioned at the top of the post. We’ll have special coverage on that in a separate post, so stay tuned.

There’s a free midday event on the legacy of pianist Mary Lou Williams sponsored by Columbia University’s Jazz Studies Institute on the 12th. Pianists Vijay Iyer and Geri Allen join professor Farah Jasmine Griffin to talk about her life and music. It’s from 11 AM to 1 PM in Buell Hall’s East Gallery on Columbia’s campus.

Looking ahead to next week, organist John Medeski and pianist Vijay Iyer will be at the Town Hall with John Zorn on March 19th.

Also on the 19th, pianist Harold Mabern leads a trio at Smalls Jazz club.

Looking much further ahead, guitarist Pat Metheny’s Unity Group has 3 area shows at the end of March to support their new album titled Kin. You can catch them in Red Bank New Jersey at the Count Basie Theater on March 23rd. They’re in Fairfield CT at Fairfield University’s Quick Center for the Arts on the 25th and in New York at the Town Hall Theater on the 28th. For those of you outside the listening area, Metheny’s website also has links for their entire tour, which will cover much of the US and Europe. Metheny fans should get tickets right away, as the shows sell out fast.

We start with the subject of tonight’s show, Pat Metheny. His new Unity Group has a new release called Kin coming out early next year and will have New York City metro area shows in March. They’re at Red Bank NJ’s Count Basie Theater on the 23rd, Fairfield University’s Quick Center for the Arts in Connecticut on the 25th, and in New York City’s Town Hall Theater on the 28th. Listeners beyond the immediate broadcast area should note that he’ll be touring the rest of the US and Europe during the spring. Metheny fans should check on tickets early since his shows sell out.

With the holiday season approaching, schedules are light, but there are a few shows for you to check out this week.

Pianist Geri Allen performs a series of concerts featuring the Afro Blue Vocal Ensemble of Duke Ellington’s “Three Black Kings” in honor of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark and the State Theater in New Brunswick from September 27th to 29th. Pianist Vijay Iyer has 3 upcoming appearances at the Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University in New Jersey. There’s a free talk on October 2nd and performances of his “Open City” large ensemble on the 4th and 5th.

Last show’s guest, pianist Michele Rosewoman, will be performing with her New Yor-Uba ensemble at Dizzy’s Club on Monday September 30th and Tuesday October 1st.
