Pianist/keyboardist Marc Cary is at the Blue Note with the Revive Big band on June 8.

Drummer Roy Haynes is at the Blue Note on June 9.

Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane is at Symphony Space on June 10.

Vocalist Dianne Reeves headlines the National Jazz Museum in Harlem’s benefit concert at Hunter College’s Kaye Playhouse on June 10th.

Pianist Randy Weston, saxophonist Billy Harper, and bassist Alex Blake will be at Borough of Manhattan Community College’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center on June 11th performing “The Roots of the Blues”. They’re also at Minton’s on June 20-21.

Saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin and poet Jessica Care Moore are at the Apollo Theater with Black Women Rock on June 12

Harpist Brandee Younger will be at The Cell Theatre on June 13th.

Trombonist/seashellist Steve Turre leads a sextet in a Rahsaan Roland Kirk tribute at Jazz at Lincoln Center from June 11-14.

Saxophonist David Murray leads a trio at the Blue Note with pianist <strongGeri Allen and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington on June 15-17.

Bassist Mimi Jones is at the Blue Note on June 16.

Pianist/vocalist Andy Bey has a solo show at Blue Note on June 16.

Bassist Alex Blake is at Kitano with Lynette Washington and Dennis Ball’s Jazz New York on June 19.

Vocalist Thana Alexa is at Subculture with Antonia Sanchez’s Migration on June 19. She will also be at Borough of Manhattan Community College’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center on June 27 for the Made in New York Jazz Gala.

Pianist Harold Mabern sits in with saxophonist George Coleman at Smoke from June 19-21 and leads a trio at the Village Vanguard from June 23-28.

This week’s guest on the radio is vocalist Carmen Lundy! She has no immediate area shows, but as usual, we’ll keep you in the loop for when she comes to town. Meanwhile, we have some upcoming gigs — and another chance to get some free tickets if you act fast.

We start with another ticket giveaway for the Schomburg Library’s Women’s Jazz Festival on March 23rd! We have four tickets to the Great Women of Blues and Jazz show curated by Toshi Reagon and featuring bassist Mimi Jones for our fans and supporters!! Guitarist Marc Ribot will be at Greenwich House in Manhattan’s Uncharted Series on the 26th.

Pianist Geri Allen, bassist Mimi Jones, and saxophonist Tia Fuller are all part of the line-up in a free concert at Rutgers University’s Newark NJ campus on the 26th.

Pianist Michele Rosewoman leads her New Yor-Uba ensemble at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club from the 27-29th.

Pianist Onaje Allen Gumbs is at Kitano on March 28th.

Saxophonist Lou Donaldson will be at William Patterson University’s Shea Center for the Performing Arts in Patterson, New Jersey on March 29th.

Saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin leads her Soulsquad at the Schomburg on March 30th with vocalist Catherine Russell to wrap up their Women’s Jazz Festival. We’ll have another ticket giveaway next weekend for this show! Check back for details.

Randy Weston will lead his African Rhythms Sextet with bassist Alex Blake at the Jazz Standard from April 2nd-5th.

Saxophonist Tia Fuller leads a quartet with bassist Mimi Jones at Smoke from April 3rd-5th.

Low brass specialist on tuba and trombone Joe Daley will be at Terra Blues with Hazmat Modine on April 4th and 18th.

Drummer Bobby Sanabria will be at Zinc Bar on April 8th.

Drummer Terri Lyne Carrington’s Grammy Award-winning re-imagination of the Ellington classic Money Jungle will be performed at the Schomburg on March 16th as part of their Women’s Jazz Festival. Columbia University professor and writer Farah Jasmine Griffin will be at the Schomburg for a discussion on African American writers and artists in the 1950s on the 11th.

Drummer Bobby Sanabria will be leading Quarteto Aché at Floridita on 125th St in Harlem on the 13th and at Seton Hall University in New Jersey on the 18th.

Legendary Drummer Roy Haynes celebrates his 90th birthday from the 13-15th at the Blue Note with special guests sitting in every night including guitarist Pat Metheny and bassist Christian McBride on the 13th!

Trombonist Steve Turre will be at Smoke from March 13-15th to celebrate the release of his Spiritman CD.

Saxophonist Gary Bartz will lead a Quartet at Kitano on March 14th.

This week’s guest is Low Brass Specialist on tuba and trombone Joe Daley, who returns for the second part of our interview with him. Saxophonist René McLean will be at Sista’s Place in Brooklyn on December 6th.

Bassist Reggie Workman will be at the Jazz Standard with saxophonist Azar Lawrence’s Quartet for celebration of Coltrane’s A Love Supreme on December 9th to 10th.

UPenn professor Dr. Guthrie Ramsey will be at HarlemStage on the City College of NY campus on December 11th for a free roundtable discussion on the current state of Black music.

Drummer Michael Carvin will be at Kitano on December 12th to 13th with a release party for his new Flash Forward CD.

Vocalist Carol Maillard will be at Brooklyn College’s Performing Arts Center on December 13th for a holiday concert with the legendary Sweet Honey in the Rock.

Pianist Randy Weston will be the master of ceremonies for a tribute to saxophonist Rene McLean at the Schomburg Center on December 16th. Details are on the Sista’s Place website.

Drummer and percussionist Bobby Sanabria will be at Baruch College’s Performing Arts Center with Gene Marlow’s Heritage Ensemble on December 16th.

The musical Lady Day continues its run at the Little Schubert Theater at 422 W. 42nd St starring vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater as Billie Holiday.




Pianist Harold Mabern appears at the Jazz Standard as part of saxophonist George Coleman’s New Octet from December 11th-15th.

Organist Akiko Tsuruga appears at Showman’s on West 125th St on the 12th and the 19th. See the Showman’s website at for details.

Drummer Will Calhoun plays a free show at the BAM Café on December 13th.

Writer Amiri Baraka and professors Guthrie Ramsey and Robert G. O’Meally are also on the panel.

On December 4th she’ll be at An Beal Bocht Café on West 238th St in the Bronx (which is a short walk from the #1 train line) with her octet. On Friday the 6th, she’ll be at the Honeycomb Playhouse Speakeasy at 735A St. Nicholas Ave (at 147th St.), and you can catch her Saturday night at Showman’s on West 125th St.

Kenny Garrett Will be at the Iridium from December 6th to the 8th.
