Pianist David Virelles is at the Jazz Gallery on February 10-11th.

Vocalist Dianne Reeves is at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater on February 10-11th.

Vocalist Catherine Russell leads a sextet at Birdland from February 14-18th singing love songs.

Blues vocalist Alexis P. Suter is at The Falcon in Marlboro NY with Ministers of Sound on the 15th and 26th and Daryl’s House in Pawling NY on the 18th.

Pianist Harold Mabern leads a trio in the late set at Smalls on the 15th.

Pianists Randy Weston and Monty Alexander are at Medgar Evers College’s Founders Auditorium in Brooklyn for “A Spiritual Awakening” on February 15th. Tickets are free!

Drummer Andrew Cyrille leads a quartet at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club on February 16th.

Bassist Melvin Gibbs and drummer/percussionist Will Calhoun are at Brooklyn’s Shapeshifter Lab on February 16th.

Melvin Gibbs drummer JT Lewis are at The Stone on February 18th with Harriet Tubman.

JT Lewis is at The Stone with the Phantom Station ensemble on the 19th.

Low brass specialist Joe Daley will be at Terra Blues with Hazmat Modine on February 18th.

Bassist Christian McBride is at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem to talk about his recording career for part 2 of the Session Stories on February 20th.

Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane leads a quartet at the Jazz Standard from February 21st-26th.

Flutist Bobbi Humphrey presents “Harlem River Drive” at Ginny’s Supper Club on February 21st for two sets.

Pianist Vijay Iyer is at the Jazz Gallery as part of Threadgill + Iyer + Prieto with Henry Threadgill and Dafnis Preito on February 22 & 23

Finally, It’s last call for the Aza, gallery exhibit of drummer and percussionist Will Calhoun’s visual art collaboration on view at the Bronx Music Heritage Center. It closes on February 11. We reviewed the show last year.

Pianist and keyboardist Marc Cary is at Nublu in the East Village on the 5th as part of the Nublu Jazz Fest.
 
Saxophonist Gary Bartz is at The Blue Note on December 5-6 with pianist McCoy Tyner.
 
The documentary film The Amazing Nina Simone will be shown at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem on December 6.
 
Pianist Barry Harris leads a trio at the Village Vanguard from December 6-13.
 
Drummer JT Lewis is at Nublu in the East Village with Harriet Tubman on the 7th as part of the Nublu Jazz Fest.
 
Vocalist/guitarist Toshi Reagon will be at HarlemStage from December 7-11 for “Can I Get a Witness: The Gospel of James Baldwin”.
 
Drummer and percussionist Bobby Sanabria is at the Baruch College Performing Arts Center with Gene Marlow’s Heritage Ensemble on December 8.
 
Saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin is at Lincoln Center’s Rubenstein Atrium for a free concert on December 8th.
 
The Sun Ra Arkestra led by Marshall Allen returns to Earth with two sets at Nublu in the East Village on the 9th as part of the Nublu Jazz Fest.
 
Saxophonist Billy Harper is at Nublu in the East Village on the 11th as part of the Nublu Jazz Fest.
 
Bassist Richard Bona is at Club Bonafide on December 16th.
 
Drummer Michael Carvin leads the Michael Carvin Experience at Kitano from December 16-17th.
 
Saxophonist Gary Bartz leads a John Coltrane tribute at Smoke from December 16-19th.
 
Pianist Vijay Iyer is at the Asia Society on the 15-16th and Harlem Stage Gatehouse with trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith on the 19th.
 
Drummer and percussionist Will Calhoun’s gallery exhibit of his visual art collaboration Aza is on view at the Bronx Music Heritage Center through February 11. We reviewed the show earlier this year.
 
Finally, looking much further ahead, the Winter Jazz Fest has released a teaser and preliminary lineup for the 2017 shinding from January 5-10! We’ll have a lot more to say about it, but for now, we’ll point you to their promo video with the highlights.

Drummer and percussionist Bobby Sanabria leads Quarteto Ache at Stamford CT’s Palace Theater on March 18th and leads the Multiverse Big Band at the Bronx Music Heritage Center on the 19th.
 
Pianist Vijay Iyer hosts a listening party at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem on the 15th and starts a residency at the Met Museum’s new Breuer Building (that’s the former Whitney Museum) from March 18-31 and will be performing or curating performances during all of the museum’s open hours.
 
Pianist Michele Rosewoman is at the Cell Theatre on March 19th.
 
Pianist Randy Weston celebrates his 90th birthday at Carnegie Hall with bassist Alex Blake and the African Rhythms ensemble on March 19th.
 
Saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin is at the the NYPL’s Schomburg Center for a Women’s History Month jazz program on the 21st and Toshi Reagon wraps up the the series on the 28th. Tune in to our March 20th show on WBAI for a ticket giveaway for both shows!
 
Also at the Schomburg Center is film director Carol Bash for a daytime talk and screening of her Mary Lou Williams documentary film The Lady Who Swings the Band on March 23.

This week’s show highlights the AACM musicians collective. Their 50th anniversary celebration features talks and performances every Friday night in October starting on the 9th at the Community Church of New York on E 35th St. Full schedule and details are at the AACM New York website. Bassist Alex Blake is at the Blue Note with vocalist Julie E on September 21.

Director Carol Bash is at HarlemStage on the City College of New York campus for a screening of her Mary Lou Williams documentary The Lady Who Swings the Band on September 22. Pianist Geri Allen and Professor Farah Jasmine Griffin will be on hand also for a performance and discussion.

Pianist/keyboardist Marc Cary is at Palisades in Brooklyn on September 23.

Saxophonist Gary Bartz is at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club from September 23-24.

Saxophonist Rene McLean is at Smoke with a Jackie McLean tribute from September 23-24.

Drummer Kim Thompson leads a quartet at Zinc Bar on the 24.

Drummer/percussionist Bobby Sanabria is at the West Gate Lounge in Nyack NY on the 25th with Larry Harlow’s Latin Legends Band and has a free outdoor show at Pelham Bay Park’s Bartow Pell Mansion in the Bronx at 6 PM on October 2.

Percussionist Steve Kroon will be at Brooklyn’s First Baptist Church of Crown Heights for Jazz Vespers with the Jeff King Band on September 27.

Drummer Jeff Tain Watts leads a quartet at the Jazz Standard from September 24-27 and returns with Yosvany Terry on October 8-10.

Saxophonist Billy Harper is at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club on the 29th with the Josh Evans Big Band for a Roaring Twenties Jazz Age party.

Saxophonist Oliver Lake and legendary bassist Reggie Workman at the Blue Note as TRIO3 from September 29-October 1. Pianist Vijay Iyer joins them as a guest on the 30.

Drummer Bobby Sanabria leads Quarteto Aché at Floridita Restaurant at 125th St. on May 31 and at Subrosa with the legendary Candido as special guest on percussion on June 7.

Organist Dr. Lonnie Smith returns to the Jazz Standard from June 2-7, with a trio the first 3 days and his Evolution ensemble the last 3 days.

Guitarist Marc Ribot is at The Stone with Roy Nathanson on June 3.

Bassist Bob Cranshaw is at An Beal Bocht Café in the Bronx with drummer Joe Farnsworth’s quartet on June 3.

Drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts is at The Cutting Room for an album release party on June 6th.
